Job Description:
The Lab Service Tech (LST) performs functions associated with obtaining, receiving and processing of laboratory specimens on patients of all ages. This position must be able to perform phlebotomy, IV insertions and/or ECGs, coordinates lab and IV orders as able to avoid multi-sticks for patients, and triages order requests for LST services. The LST also processes specimens (centrifugation, aliquot's, STAT versus routine prioritization & distribution to testing sites), works with other pathology departments ensuring that the patient specimen has been properly triaged to allow all provider testing ordered is completed, analyzes the acceptability of lab specimens (includig labeling requirements for patient identification) and accompanying requisition forms using established quality control & assurance guidlines and triages specimens to maximize workflow & minimize the turn around times to perform testing for STAT, OR, ED and other critical care areas.
Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or equivalent. Must have 6 months of health care experience to include phlebotomy or IV insertion. The following may substitute for the above experience required: completion of a health care program (e.g. CMA, EMT, Paramedic, phlebotomy)
